Apple pie is a favorite around here. Having quart jars of prepared apple pie filling ready to use on the spur of the moment has become a must! Friends and/or family visiting unexpectedly will never find you without a sweet to share. Whether you use it for a pie, a hot drizzle over homemade ice cream, or one of your personal favorite ways to please guests, this recipe will suffice.

  • 4-1/2 c Sugar
  • 1 c Cornstarch
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • or 3 drops Yellow Food Coloring
  • 5-12 to 6 lbs Tart Apples

In large saucepan, blend Sugar, Cornstarch Cinnamon and Nutmeg plus 1 tsp salt. Stir in 10 c Water, cool and stir till thick and bubbly. Add Lemon Juice and Food Coloring.

Pack apples into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1 inch headspace. Adjust lids and process 20 minutes in hot water bath. (Makes 6 Quarts)
