Contentment

Contentment
Even when I cannot understand, still I can trust God.

The Bible has many stories that show how aging can be a noble and dignified experience. Finding joy and blessings in the midst of life changes or adversity can bring fulfillment and contentment as we age. Trusting God is the one key we cannot ignore.

For instance, take a few moments to consider Moses and his life as he grew older. While Moses recognized his weaknesses, he took them to God, who proved trustworthy and provided for him ... again! As he aged, he took advice from his father-in-law, who suggested he appoint men to assist him in his leadership role. Moses is a perfect example of not allowing his years to stop him from fulfilling his purpose in the Kingdom of God. He never succumbed to complacency or idleness, but found purpose in his new role as a mentor and advisor. He continued to serve as a guide for the Israelites, offering wisdom and guidance based on his own experiences and the commandments given to him by God. Moses serves as a beautiful model for all who seek to age gracefully and continue making a meaningful impact in their later years.

And then there's Naomi, a woman of great strength and resilience. She experienced immense loss and hardship, watching her husband and her sons die, leaving young women widowed early in life. However, despite her burden of unimaginable grief and loss, Naomi managed to find joy and maintain relationships, serving as a powerful example for all who face the inevitable process of aging. Despite losing her husband and her sons, Naomi refused to succumb to despair. Instead, she focused on the blessings that remained in her life, particularly her relationship with her daughter-in-law, Ruth.

Other examples to consider include Abraham, Caleb, Anna, Simeon, and Paul. All reassure us that we can find true contentment in the aging process.

"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." (Philippians 4:11b)
