Firm Foundation: Part 2
I Believe in God...
After reading Part 1, let’s add to our “belief” the OBJECT of our belief … God. YHWH. Abba. Adonai. The Most High. The Great I Am. The Ruler of the Universe. The Source of Life. The Highest Authority. The Supreme Being. And so much more!
“I believe in God” is not simply an acknowledgement that there is “a God” but that our confidence is placed in “the” Most High God, Ruler of the Universe, the One Supreme God. A confidence that only comes from knowing Him to be faithful, to be who He says he is, having placed our total trust in Him. The only way to know that is to know Him as He reveals Himself to us in the Word of God.
God is a Person, but he’s not a mortal or created person. God is spirit, so he is a perfect, eternal, spiritual Person.
He is personal; he has a personality. God is not a “life force” or some impersonal mystical vibe floating around outer space. He thinks things and says things. He relates to his creation. He takes joy, he is jealous, he is love, he is just, he has anger and wrath, he has grace and mercy.
Friends, when we say “I believe in God”, this a HUGE declaration! We declare that we put our trust in Him. There’s much to be said about making declarations that affirm our faith. We declare with our mouth, having professed belief in Him that He is reliable and trustworthy — a promise-keeper for whom nothing is impossible. That there is no doubt that He is who He says He is. In fact, we could stop right there and allow our declarations to become our very personal act of worship as we cast aside all doubt, all fear, all speculation, all guesswork.
Declare that God is God Most High! We’ll see this in even greater measure as we go on! We declare that we KNOW God to be all He says He is!
Yes, I believe in God!
