Firm Foundation: Part 5
God: Creator of Heaven and Earth...
Creator of the universe. He spoke the worlds into existence. He is needful of nothing and self-sufficient, in a category all by himself. The Creator is the founder, author, inventor, originator, maker, generator and pioneer of all creation – of everything that is in heaven and earth. The Creator spoke and the worlds were formed.
Genesis 1:1 says that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” This means that, before Genesis 1:1, there existed no heavens and no earth. God spoke them into being (Genesis 1:3, 6, 9). “In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them” (Exodus 20:11; cf. Revelation 10:6).
He is God. He is not limited by our understanding, nor by time, space, or matter. As the Creator, God is the all-wise originator and designer of all things:
“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all” (Psalm 104:24).
To believe in God, we acknowledge that He is the Creator of everything -- of heaven and of earth and all that is in them. We believe that He was in the beginning and will be eternally the One who spoke everything into existence. We'll talk more about this in the future. But today, proclaim His authorship of the universe; give Him glory for His power, His sovereign rule over time and matter, and His ever-watchful eye that keeps all He has created in accordance with His will, His plan and His purpose.
"For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory of His name; Bring an offering and come into His courts. Worship the Lord in holy attire; Tremble before Him, all the earth." (Psalm 96:4-9)
Give God the glory ... Creator of Heaven and Earth!
