God Alone
One of the greatest stumbling blocks the enemy sets before every believer is the one staring back from the mirror. Take a hard look, and you’ll see a clear image of his primary target—the self he longs to exalt, distract, and ultimately destroy. He tempts us to rehearse our sacrifices, measure our accomplishments, and quietly award ourselves a premature “Well done.” But God’s ways are not impressed with self-congratulation. His path always leads downward—into humility, surrender, and dependence.
Jeremiah was very specific when it came to emphasis on self:
Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 9:23–24 emphasis added)
The Word of God is the fountainhead of all true knowledge—especially the knowledge of God Himself. We do not know Him by feelings, nor by observing others who follow Him. We cannot truly know Him through Christian media, inspiring music, or even faithful church attendance. God is known as He reveals Himself through His Word. Jesus—the Word made flesh—makes the Father known. In Him we see God’s character, His ways, His integrity, His faithfulness, and His steadfast love. To know Jesus is to know God.
Do you truly know God? Make it your daily priority to draw near to Him and know Him more deeply. Seek Him until your heart is so anchored in His greatness that the temptation to be self-focused no longer turns your gaze toward yourself—but toward God, and God alone.
Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:31)
Final Thought
To know Him is to lose yourself in His glory.
Prayer
Father, my heart desires to know You in such a way that I feel Your holy and awesome presence with every breath I take. Amen.
