GOD: "I WILL BREAK DOWN YOUR STUBBORN PRIDE"

We often wonder why the heavens seem closed to our prayers. It could be we have some stubborn pride issues that need to be dealt with.

Pride Is God's Most Stubborn Enemy

In my reading this morning, I came across God's instruction to Israel -- "if you keep my commandments, and do them...".

We love to think about all the blessings God has in store for our obedience!  But, we often forget that obedience to God demands that we approach him with humility, that we live humbly before Him and others, and that we never forget the hopeless estate from which He redeemed us.

Take a moment and look at this statement regarding rebellion and pride which with God admonished Israel:

"I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze. Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit." (Lev 26:19-20)

Jonathan Edwards said, "Pride is God's most stubborn enemy! There is no sin so much like the devil as pride. It is a secret and subtle sin, and appears in a great many shapes which are undetected and unsuspected."

This makes me me wonder if we have continual unanswered prayer or if we feel heaven is closed when we pray that we might not begin by humbling ourselves before God, repent of our sinful pride, and then pray!

Chew on that for a while ...
