Not long ago, as I was listening to “Angels We Have Heard On High,” it occurred to me how powerful the words to the chorus truly are! We sing, Gloria! In Excelsis Deo, but how many of us stop to consider what we’re doing?
As we sing those words in Latin or English or whatever our native language, we literally join with the Hosts of Heaven, proclaiming YHWH as the Most High God, the One True God, the Creator who made heaven and earth. We proclaim that He is ULTIMATE, UTMOST, SUPREME, and SUPERLATIVE! He is matchless; there is nothing or no one who can compare
Take a few minutes this Christmas to close your eyes and imagine standing in the midst of the glorious Host of Heaven. Listen closely as you imagine the sound of thunderous praise and worship surrounding you, echoing throughout eternity, and join the chorus … GLORIA! IN EXCELSIS DEO!
And suddenly there appeared with the angel a great multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests!” (Luke 2:13-14)
