Let It Shine

God wants to use you and the Light that dwells within to open the eyes of those who choose to sit in darkness.
Let It Shine

"Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life..." (Philippians 2:14-16)

Some days seem like everything around us is negative. The news has little (if any) praiseworthy to report.

The pressures of life are bearing down. Spring may be in the air, but dark clouds loom overhead as brisk winds remind us once again of changing seasons. Life has a way of turning yucky without notice.

Despite everything negative, there is some good news. Light shines the brightest against the backdrop of the deepest darkness. Sometimes we simply have to take note of it and choose to let it shine.

Allow me to encourage you today. Because of Jesus and the price He paid for our sin, we are bearers of light that has the power to dispel darkness. When we walk into a room filled with naysayers, unbelievers and/or perverseness, we literally introduce light that shines brilliantly and noticeably in contrast to the oppressive atmosphere.

Scripture tells us they will know we are Christians by our love (John 13:35). It is the love of God that ignites the heart and testifies of the amazing grace available through Jesus Christ.

Many times we don’t have to say much at all until people recognize who we are and Who we represent. It’s a fact that by the shed blood of Jesus, we can and do shine as beacons in the darkest night, drawing attention—not to us—but to the Source of the Light that dwells within.

How is your light? Is it burning bright with fervent heat or is it a tender flicker that will go out with the slightest touch?

Don’t bemoan the darkness as much as you glory in the Light! God wants to use you and the Light that dwells within to open the eyes of those who choose to sit in darkness. He wants to use you as an ambassador representing His glorious mercy and grace to the world today.

Prayer

Father, shine through me and let the world know that You love them. Amen.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
