MESSIANIC

While we are reading the Story of the Bible, we see the Messianic line through Abraham, Isaac, and now Jacob! Always be attentive to what God is doing in and/or through other characters; be careful to not simply ignore or consider them to be insignificant.
Messianic Bloodline

Significance of the Bloodline

Reading Scripture as a story from beginning to end opens our eyes to so much! The Messianic line through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, includes many stories and characters. All details in God's Word are significant. There's a purpose for every individual, every circumstance, every experience, every story (both back-end and front-end) recorded in Scripture!

Genesis 32-34

Today I was reading and it occurred to me that, while we are tracing Jacob's life for obvious reasons, it's apparent God was also dealing with Esau throughout the years of Jacob's service to Laban. The two brothers were separated by hatred, jealousy and the need for revenge. Suddenly we see them reunited expressing brotherly love toward each other. Jacob had prospered; his family grew, he was rich with livestock, etc. But, God hadn't forgotten Esau! Even though through Isaac the Messianic line would continue as had given his blessing to Jacob, he also made promises to Esau which God never forgot!

Genesis 27:39 says: "Isaac his father answered him, 'Behold, your dwelling will be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of the sky from above.'" This blessing is played out as we learn how greatly Esau was blessed with family, members of his household, livestock, all his animals, and all his possessions! But, I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Did God Hate Esau?

There's a phrase in Malachi (also quoted in Romans and 1 John) that has baffled me. God said: “‘Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated...’” (Mal 1:3a). This has nothing to do with the human emotions of love and hate. It has everything to do with God establishing the Messianic line by choosing one man (Isaac) and his descendants while rejecting another man (Esau) and his descendants.

All People Matter

Jacob was incredibly blessed; Esau was not forgotten! What an amazing thought! The Word of God is a goldmine; each morsel of truth waits to be uncovered! YHWH doesn't forget His promises ... we serve a promise-keeping God!

May God bless us as we dig into His Word each day!
