Reformatted God

Reformatted God

Reading the last paragraph of Romans 1, which I encourage you to read in its entirety, it becomes obvious that Paul, while writing to the Romans in his lifetime, was also writing to us today.

Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:32)

Most of us know right from wrong but continue in sin to one degree or another. So many not only fall short but approve of the evils that have become acceptable to our post-modern lifestyles.

We serve a glorious almighty God – the Most High above all gods, angels, or supernatural beings or forces. There is simply nothing or no one to compare! But our modern culture has taken the One True God, our Holy and Righteous God, and trimmed Him, reshaped Him, and forced Him to fit into our idea of what we think God should be like.

Rather than declaring His righteousness, we now declare tolerance. Rather than declaring His holiness, we loudly declare compromise. Rather than declaring His purity, we celebrate perversion. Rather than declaring His perfect and unmatchable splendor, we wallow in mediocrity. Rather than declaring His truth, we now demand political correctness.

Have we lost sight of the God of the Bible? Have we reformatted Him into an image of God that is of our own design rather than the image of the One True God? The world needs to see God as True, Just, Holy, Righteous, and Pure.

While He is Love, His love is a PURE love, not the love we have morphed into an idea that temporarily soothes our sin-sickened souls.

Let’s carefully examine our ideas of God and be sure they align with the truth of Who He is ... the Most High, the Holy One whose glory train fills the temple, the One who is very great and clothed with splendor and majesty (Psalm 104:1). Can we echo, with our whole hearts, the words of the Psalmist David in Chronicles 29:11 ... "Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all." Can we strive to fit into HIS perfect mold and stop trying to fit HIM into our imperfect mold?

Father, teach us how to surrender to you more each day until Your glorious splendor is evident in all we do and say. Amen!
