Although I am only a 66-year old mother of six and grandmother of thirteen living in rural Huron County, Ohio, I have a voice that demands to be heard so I contacted my representatives in Washington and respectfully stated my position. Whatever our personal convictions concerning abortion, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act which just passed the House is, at the very least, a step to introducing sanity into the insanity of abortion-on-demand from conception to term.
To be honest, however, this Bill which has gained House approval conflicts me greatly because I believe life begins at conception and any step to interfere with that life is wrong. I’m grieved to think our country has allowed abortion on demand to become the law of the land while innocent children are being slaughtered day after day. This bill, while a step in the right direction, still leaves the largest majority of abortions unrestricted and without boundary since most occur prior to 12 weeks gestational age. My fear is that by passing this bill, our voice will be misconstrued to assume that we are in agreement that abortion prior to 20 weeks is acceptable … IT IS NOT!
While I contacted my Senators and strongly urged them to vote YES on this bill, I want to make it clear that this must not be the end of the battle to protect life at all stages of development, from conception to natural death. If we must whittle away at this issue until all unborn children are protected, this is an acceptable step toward that end. But it is not the end until all unborn children are shielded from terrorism in the womb and sanity is restored to the legal system regarding abortion.
The victims in Las Vegas were targeted by a mad-man with an agenda to kill as many as possible. However horrendous this act was, and while more than 500 became victims of insanity, the majority of the concert-attenders were able to escape unscathed by the gunman’s goal to kill. Unborn children, however, have no place of escape. They can’t hide behind cars or trees or barriers. They can’t run into buildings or even hide behind other people. They don’t even have a loved one to sacrifice themselves so they can live! They are specifically targeted and have no way of escape while our laws allow this murder to continue approximately 3,000 times every day!
Our nation is reeling in pain, confusion and fear from last week’s attack by a mad-man. It’s time we reeled in pain and fear on behalf of our unborn children who are being victimized by misinformation, politicalization and convenience. It’s time we began to bring some sanity into the insanity of abortion-on-demand.
