Snowballs
Snowballs
By Dorothy Tazelaar
My Mom's best friend, Dorothy Tazelaar, held a wedding shower for me a couple of months before our wedding. She was known for her baking skills, especially for traditional Dutch pastries. Although I'm not sure her Snowballs were specifically Dutch, she gifted me with recipe cards for some favorite delicacies served at the shower in late 1971. The recipe card in the photo above was typed by her and included in a recipe "scrapbook" I still use today!
- 1-1/2 c Butter
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- 2 Tbsp Water
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 2/3 c Sugar
- 4 c Flour
- 2 c Chocolate Chips
- 2 c Pecans finely chopped
- Confectioner's Sugar
Combine the first 5 ingredients. Stir in the flour and chocolate chips. Form into balls. Roll in nuts. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees. Roll in confectioner's sugar while warm.
