Unbalanced
We have a sign created by our niece hanging above the doorway leading to the front hallway. I love it because it simply reminds me of the beauty of family and the blessing of having a home. Having raised six children, the houses pictured on this sign might actually have been big enough for our crew, but that's up for debate! They were a lively bunch at times, but more than that, they were heart-warmers. Our kids were and still are such a blessing!
No matter how often we straighten the sign and square it up with the doorframe, once someone opens or closes the front door, the sign tilts as if it's determined to be unbalanced. But, we've checked and it is perfectly balanced when we straighten it! But, again, once someone opens or shuts the front door, the sign tilts to the pictured unbalanced position.
As I sit here this morning looking at that sign, I am reminded of the fullness of the family of God, created to be perfectly in balance with His plans and purposes. But, like the sign above the doorway, the Body of Christ can easily get knocked off balance.
God's Word guides us as we grow together in perfect balance with Christ and each other. Being steadfast and balanced will stand out, especially among unloving members, prejudices, judgmental criticisms, inward-focused ministries, lack of compassion, etc. Setting the perfect example will lead others to examine their hearts and repent for ungodly attitudes and actions.
Nothing stands out to the world more than a church that has lost its focus, its purpose, and/or its balance. Those who love the Lord and are led by Spirit through knowledge of His Word must work to maintain the perfect balance of love within the Body – and it starts with each of us. It takes maturity and willingness to deny self while building up and encouraging others. There's no room for pridefulness or egotism within a healthy and balanced Body.
I guess the crooked and unbalanced sign above the doorway can teach us something; it sure made me think this morning. Let's make an effort to maintain a grounded and steadfast life in faith, attitudes, and actions. Let's be the balance the world needs to see!
