DAILY SUPPLEMENTS
What Does the Bible Say About Supplementing Our Diet?
The Apostle Peter didn't mess around when he wrote about living a life of godliness. He was a strong believer in supplementing our daily diet of the Word to nourish that tiny seed of faith that was initially planted in our hearts when we first believed.
In order to be partakers of the divine nature, supplements are critical. Yes, God has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness but they are found along the path of knowledge of God as we escape worldly corruption and become partakers of the divine nature.
Here's Peter's recipe for such a life ... one that is partaking of and growing in the divine nature of Christ.
Our faith grows strong when supplemented with virtue. To that virtue, we are to add knowledge. And, to knowledge we are to add self-control supplemented with steadfastness. Steadfastness produces godliness which is to be supplemented with brotherly affection supplemented with love. This is the lifestyle that produces true godliness.
So, why should we pursue godliness? Peter, once again was forthright in his explanation:
"For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins."
Think about that for a few moments and let it sink in!
Do we want to be effective witnesses for Christ? Then godliness is a must! Do we want our lives to be fruitful? Then godliness is a must! Forgetting the supplements to our faith that lead to true godliness will render us nearsighted and blind, having forgotten that we have been cleansed from our former sins.
Many of us take supplements to our daily diet. Most of us didn't realize that spiritual supplements are even more critical in our daily walk as believers.
2 Peter 1:3-11
"His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
To confirm our calling and election, it is imperative that we pursue godliness by practicing these qualities -- taking these supplements to our daily walk with Christ!
