Rainy Day
There's a chilly much-needed rain falling this morning. As I gazed out the front picture window, I remembered something my parents talked about from time to time when I was too young to understand. Being meticulous with the household finances, they made a point of setting aside some funds each week for a rainy day or a time when money might unexpectedly be needed. By no means were they considered wealthy, but they provided a wonderful life that left me with many warm childhood memories of family and friends. I cling to those memories with thankfulness for all God provided through their love.
What do we have stored up for a rainy day when extra assurances of God's loving provision seem scant or even lacking? Do we have the promises of God stored in our hearts which, by the way, are worth more than Mom and Dad's rainy day funds? What treasured words of gold are sown in our hearts that will sustain us during uncertain or difficult times?
It's not too late to begin a rainy day fund filled with God's Word if you don't already have one. Today is a good day to begin building up a storehouse of assurances of God's loving care and provision by meditating on His promises until committed to memory.
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O LORD;
teach me your statutes!
With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word. (Psalm 119:11-16)
