Well-Proved
An interesting thought came to mind as I read Psalm 46 this morning. Many of us are familiar with the first verse and perhaps the next verses penned by the Psalmist. But, what stood out to me was the phrase very present.
"God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear..." (Ps 46:1-2a)
One translation interprets the phrase to say well-proved ... a well-proved help in trouble.
It is so comforting to take note of the times our God has helped us in the past during challenging seasons in our life. And the Psalmist knew that all too well! Think about how many Psalms were written recounting God's faithfulness in times past ... over and over again he testified of the well-proved times God remained faithful even when His people grew weak and less than faithful.
Whatever you're facing right now, take some time and recount the times God showed Himself to be a very present and a well-proved help in your times of trouble.
God is our refuge and strength – He is trustworthy because it is who He is ... He is faithful and there is no reason to doubt Him. If we feel like our circumstances have weakened our faith, just remember ... He is indeed our refuge and strength. And because He is very present in times of trouble and His faithfulness has been well-proved, "therefore we will not fear..." (v.2a). Amen!
